We extract the fruiting body twice. Pass one is hot water, which draws out the water-soluble beta-1,3/1,6-D-glucans. Pass two is food-grade ethanol, which pulls the fat-soluble terpenes and sterols — including hericenones and cordycepin — that hot water leaves behind. Most brands only do the first pass, leaving half the actives on the table.

100% fruiting body, always. When a label says "mushroom extract" it usually means mycelium grown on grain — essentially oat starch with trace mushroom. The hericenones and erinacines that make Lion's Mane worth taking are found in fruiting-body extract only.
